There's been a major announcement from the Morfik crew today - the release of the Alpha version of their much anticipated Ajax IDE - WebOS.
You don't have to know javascript, or PHP, or how to configure Apache or mySQL, or some other server to build AJAX applications. You can use a graphical environment, draw up tables and queries, draw forms, reports, etc., and write your code in Basic, Pascal, C#, or Java and WebOS will build both the client and server side portions for you. The Server side is a combination of Apache for the web server and Firebird for the database server. WebOS takes your forms and code and develops the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for you.
The version that's been released is in the Alpha stage, so there's a lot left yet to do, but you can go over right now to their site and sign up as a Pioneer to be elegible for access to the download. The download is the pre-alpha version, which will be followed by a trial (not a finished product) that will work for two weeks from the installation, and it runs about 25MB. There are also some opinions from a pre-release developer on this blogspot page - things like stating that the time has come for real web-based desktop-style apps, and that this app presents a simple, clean way to help that be accomplished. "I hit a couple of buttons. Out comes a web application."
The Morfik team has a ways to go until their app is ready of prime time, but it's definitely going to change the way developers work with web applications - Ajax or not.
